Ford Gives Us a Hybrid Sedan

There has been a gaping hole in the mid-sized car segment from Ford with the loss of the Taurus a few years back.The Ford Fusion has been around since 2006 but is now modified with the new Hybrid power plant system from Ford. Ford officially released the Fusion Hybrid recently at the Los Angeles Auto Show late in 2008.The excellent in-town gas mileage is what makes the Ford Fusion Hybrid so unique.Beating out the Toyota Camry by a large margin, and the economical Civic Hybrid by a hair; the Fusion Hybird is ranked at 41 MPG in town driving.The hybrid electric motor has the ability to power the Fusion up past 45 miles per hour without the help of the gas engine.It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.
By using new technology, the Fusion can help drivers know which driving style recieves the best fuel economy.The Smart Gauge is a set of gauges built into the display.A couple of different info categories are displayed on two screens next to the gauge cluster. The first screen shows the fuel level and the level of power left in the batteries.The 2nd information monitor shows the tachometer and the electric mode function. The third screen displays engine and battery output power.Additional power consumption and power to the wheels are shown in the last data screen.The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.To inform the driver which driving style is the best for fuel economy, a real time MPG information gauge is available.
The navigation system also houses the Hybrid Energy Flow Display.This display will exhibit the five modes of the Hybrid Pwer Train in cluding things like the regenerative braking, the elestric engine boost, and various hybrid and electric drive systems, and finally the charge while at idle.
Ford not only equipped the Fusion with an environmentally friendly drivetrain; they also used post-industrial yarns which are recycled into the seats of the Fusion Hybrid.Toyota and Honda have been selling thousands of hybrids per year unchallanged, better late than never with Ford.
