Choosing your favourite Car: The Audi R8

Written by man on February 5th, 2010 in Other.

“The slowest car we have ever built”.

Audis intelligent little strapline was the first thing to cathcy my eye about the R8, and it was quickly followed by the smooth and clever advert. Seeing the can being slowly pieced together caught my eye whilst I sat on the sofa. Within a second of watching that was it – I was hooked.

Audi’s new supercar didn’t just have me as an admirer in the end. In fact, everwhere I went for months was full of stories talking about this new car. They may have been writing all over the web, but everyone was talking about the same thing - how gorgeous it is. Audi are great at making a simple car that everyone likes, and with the R8 they have gone one step further.

Even when they are chunky, Audi cars stay good looking. The Audi’s racing history is clear in their powerful, masculine advertising, and I can never shake that impression when I walk around an Audi showroom. The TT was their most popular car for a while, and they got even closer to it looking perfect when they released the newest version. It seemed a simple step up to create this astounding car.

The Audi R8 looks stunning. With a low to the ground build and aerodynamic grooves running down the sides, this just looks like it should go incredibly fast. Add to this incredibly glitzy metal alloys and an interior that screams taste from the rooftops, and the R8 suddenly fulfills its supercar dreams. I have seen dirty R8’s before (I know, travesty!), but they are beautiful even then - I honestly think this may be one of the best body shapes ever invented. Alongside the stunning supercar R8, Audi are now releasing the Audi R8 Spyder – although personally I prefer the shape of the original.

Not only do you get these good looks, but we haven’t even addressed the sparky V10 under the hood. Facts and stats can only tell you so much about a car - the only way to really find out, for me at least, is to see and even drive the car in real life.

Impressively, if you want to own a used Audi R8 rather than an expensive new one, the cost is quite dramatically reduced. I know people who have bought them for not far off £65k, a price that makes similar spec cars seem incredibly expensive. With this in mind, it seems the price isn’t quite the obstacle that people imagined it would be. For those of us who dream of owning this car but who can’t, a simple used Audi will have to do the job for in the meantime!
